Chico is an amazing guy & we are so glad we rescued him. He was found abondoned at a local Animal Control. No one came for him & no one adopted him. We knew he would be euthanized if he wasn’t rescued. Chico is about 11-13 years of age. He gets along fine with other dogs & loves to sit on the couch with you. He would gladly sleep in your bed too. He has neurological issues that results in his back legs not always working as well as he’d like. He loves short walks though & gets around quite well. He does best on carpeting vs. hard flooring. He needs to be in a home where there are not many stairs, although his foster Mom often catches him sneakiing down to the basement & climbing the stairs back up all by himself. They are carpeted so they aren’t as hard for him as most stairs. Chico loves soft beds & good food. He has a congenital eye condition that requires prescription drops each day. He does not mind the drops & they are not expensive ($20 for a bottle which would last a couple of months or more). He [...]

Pilar is a wonderful little girl. She so wants to be part of a loving family. The fact that she came out of a puppy mill and spent the last 6 years having puppies does not detour her in the least. She is a little unsure of being picked up, but as long as it is done slowly and reassuringly, she does well. She loves her kennel and her blankets and makes a nest. Pilar keeps her kennel clean, and is doing well with potty training. She is doing well on a 3-4 hr schedule. It will take her a couple days to adjust to a new home, but she is already wagging her tail and is happy to see me. She would do well with another chi companion. She gets along great with small dogs.

Underdog Rescue was able to rescue several Japanese Chins from a puppy mill on March 26. They are totally sweet and need a foster home to go to. Here is some information about the breed. This breed is considered one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds in attitude: it is alert, intelligent, and independent, and it uses its paws to wash and wipe its face. Other cat-like traits include their preference for resting on high surfaces such as the backs of sofas and chairs, their ability to walk across a coffee table without disturbing an item, and some of the surprising places their owners often find them in. They rank 62nd in Stanley Coren’s The Intelligence of Dogs, being of fair working/obedience intelligence. A companion dog, it is loving and loyal to its owner and typically happy to see other people, though a few are distrustful of strangers. Chin prefer familiar surroundings, but do quite well in new situations and are often used as therapy dogs because of this trait and their love of people. Very early socialization of Chin puppies leads to a more emotionally well-balanced Chin that is more accepting of different situations and people. The [...]

We have a rare opportunity to help puppy mill survivors. However, we can only save as many as we have foster homes open to take them in. If you are interested in opening your heart to one of these neglected dogs, please let us know. There are also MANY pregnant dogs in need of safe places to go. The breeds included are: • Cocker Spaniel • Papillon • Chihuahua • Dachshund • American Eskimo • Schnauzer • Beagle • Old English Sheepdog • Basenji • Shih Tzu • Poodle • Maltese • Shiba Inu • Japanese Chin • Boxer This is just a partial list- there will be close to 500 dogs or more hoping to be rescued. Some of these poor souls are 9-12 years of age! They have suffered for so long and for many this is their last chance to know love and kindness before their lives are taken from them. If you can help, please let us know right away! Spots need to be secured for them by this Sunday the 25th, at the latest. Please contact me ASAP if you would like to help us save lives by becoming a foster home!
