Underdog Rescue – and the companion animals we serve – could not survive without the support and commitment of our wonderful volunteers. In fact, all of our staff members are volunteers. Thank you for considering Underdog Rescue to meet this goal. We always need foster homes and drivers. Please look at the details below on those opportunities but also consider other skills you have (accounting, fundraising, organizational development and planning, etc.) and whether that
expertise could help us meet our mission.
Foster Homes
Today’s tough economy has led to increases in dog and cat neglect, abandonment and abuse. Sadly, there are more adoptable cats and dogs being held in animal control facilities than there are spaces in foster homes to save them. Every week, we see and interact with these animals, each of whom is deserving of a home. Yet every week, we find ourselves making painful decisions about which of these dogs and cats we can save from euthanasia. If you want to become a part of the solution, please consider becoming a foster home. If you have room in your home and in your heart for a temporary pet, there is a life, right now, that you can help us save.
What Does it take to be an Underdog Foster Family?
Fostering includes making room in your family for a new member, making time to take foster pets to vet appointments or adoption days, and making a safe and supportive environment for animals that may have had traumatic pasts. Beyond that, we’ve learned that our happiest foster families are those who understand the natural constraints of small volunteer based organizations. We run as lean as we can to put every available resource into saving as many animals as we can. Help is
always welcome and flexibility is enormously appreciated. Underdog Rescue will provide food and crates to foster homes for the animal to use during their stay. On average our sponsored pets remain in our care for 1-2 months. If you are interested, please go to the applications page and fill out a foster application.
Drivers Wanted!
We always need help transporting cats and dogs to and from veterinarian appointments on those occasions when foster families are simply unable to do so. If you are a safe driver, have your own vehicle and can make room in your calendar for these kinds of short trips, you will be a hero! Even if you can’t commit to driving every week, offering to “on call” for occasional transports will be a huge help.
